In the United States alone, approximately one in three pregnancies terminate in the abortion of the unborn child. This translates into approximately 1.5 million abortions each year. This data illustrates that abortion is a fact of life in modern times while at the same time presenting complex legal, political, and ethical issues by raising fundamental questions about the sanctity of life in general and the universal concern for human liberty.
