This paper discusses the apocalypse and Millenarianism, (the end of the world). It discusses the theories that began these theories, the history of the theories in current culture, and the various cults, sects and groups that have either supported this belief or condemned it. It further discusses the events that have been associated with the theory.

"The basis of apocalyptic beliefs lies in the writings of the New testament, specifically the "revelation" according to John (Lamy 1996, 31). The writings of John, in the Bible, describe the resurrection of Jesus, and Jesus' order for his prophets to move throughout the world and tell all people that Jesus has returned from the dead (Lamy 1996, 31). These eleven prophets are asked to not only tell of Jesus' resurrection, they are further commanded to preach his gospel, and promote belief in Christianity. In Revelations John writes of visions that demonstrate that there will be a time when an evil prophet will rise up to destroy the world, and that Jesus will return once again to strike him down. Furthermore, there will be the creation of a "new heaven" and a "new earth" (Lamy 1996, 31)."
