"An added constituent of the SmartWay Transport Partnership is the elimination of avoidable truck and railway idling through the development of a countrywide network of idle-reduction alternatives along important transportation corridors such as truck stops, travel centres, rail switch yards, distribution hubs, ports, borders and along the side of the road as well. (iii) Enhancing the overall efficiency and use of rail and inter-modal operations: A very efficient mode of transportation is the Ton-mile for ton-mile. An important third component of the SmartWay Transport Partnership is according importance to the practical opportunities in which rail can be better utilized and encourage more efficient operations of railways and other innovations on the technical front."
