This paper examines the impact that early intervention by human resources personnel can have upon the optimization of a merger between business entities. In particular the paper looks closely at the merger between the Sports Authority and GART Sports. While the literature is disappointingly scant in this matter, it looks at how there is circumstantial evidence to indicate that HR involvement did take place in a timely manner during the initial merger, and if it did not lead to immediate improvement it at least did not cause any lasting harm.
