"Sandplay therapy is a type of Jungian art therapy that was developed and introduced into the psychoanalytic paradigm of psychology by Dora Kalff in the 1950s. Kalff is a Swiss therapist who follows in the concepts and ideals of the famous psychiatrist Carl Jung. Kalff uses Jung's idea of personal individuation and the unconscious Self and incorporates it into the therapeutic process of sandplay (Miller, 2001, p. 31). Sandplay therapy is currently gaining steady recognition in the therapeutic realms of psychology. Evidence suggests that this type of therapy decreases and even eradicates symptoms of depression in both adults and children. Sandplay is also being used to treat eating disorders, multiple personality disorder, and social anxiety disorder (Miller, 2001, p. 31)."
