Paper Summary:

This paper discusses the advantages of using SOAP--Simple Object Access Protocol. The author gives a description of how this communication protocol operates, and further describes the history of Internet communications between programs. The author states that SOAP's major advantages are that it is platform and language independent. It is also relatively simplistic. The author cites security reasons as being one of the few disadvantages of SOAP.

"SOAP's major advantages are that it is platform and language independent. It "provides a way to communicate between applications running on different operating systems, with different technologies and programming languages" (W3Schools, 2006). As a result, SOAP can be used to link different systems both within and without a single organization (Wolter, 2006). It can be used to transfer over any transport protocol, including TCP, HTTP, SMTP, and MSMQ (Skonnard, 2003)."
