Religion and Religiosity

The paper deals with the impact of religion and religiosity on developmental and faith based developmental stages corresponding with childhood, adolescence, early adult, middle adult and late adult stages. After defining religion and religiosity and exploring their differences, this paper focuses primarily on the benefits of religion for each of the stages. The paper cites current research.

"Religion has a powerful effect on people's lives - from giving them a sense of purpose and explaining why we are here on earth - to giving them a sense of peace during times of suffering or nearing their departure from this world. The question of religion versus religiosity incorporates still more components to the effect religion has on an individual. Using the eight developmental stages of Erik Erikson as a guide and incorporating the work of faith-based development theorists, this paper will examine how religion affects people in the different stages of their lives: childhood, adolescence, young adulthood, middle adulthood and late adulthood. Critical to this discussion is a definition of religion versus religiosity. Although the two terms are often used interchangeably, they refer to two different concepts."
