Postmodernity
An examination of postmodernity, its criticism and its existence within society.
2,504 words (approx. 10 pages) | 7 sources | APA | 2008 United States

Paper Summary:

The paper discusses postmodernism in relation to sociological thought, religion, art, literature, business and politics. The paper explores the criticisms leveled at postmodernists but shows how postmodernism is important and prevalent in society. The paper also explains why, although postmodern thought may be important within society, it cannot be the prevailing philosophy of society.

From the Paper:

"Postmodernity is the combination of the best of the old world and the best of modern society (Mizrach, n.d., sec. 1). It is essentially an attempt to gather the preferred elements of new and old, while leaving the undesirable behind (Mizrach, n.d., sec. 1). According to Mizrach (n.d.). Postmodernity is "elusive and slippery", or an "organizing principle in thought, action and reflection connected to the many changing factors in society" (sec. 1). It is also a response to modernism in that postmodernists believe that the modernization of society through industrialization and technological innovation failed to achieve what it was intended to achieve - a better social order (Mizrach, n.d., sec. 1)."
