From the Paper:
"Portfolios can be used in a variety of ways. In terms of school curricula, portfolios can be used for either large-scale assessment or as a smaller-scale system in a classroom setup. A large-scale assessment portfolio is focused on a group and its average performance. This could be used for example to determine the performance of a group of students in terms of a certain skill and its development over time. A smaller-scale portfolio system is more often focused on individuals in a single classroom. Here also a predetermined set of skills are measured over a period of time, but this is done for each individual student. This paper will focus on the smaller-scale classroom systems."
