The paper discusses Machiavelli's theories of how power should be earned and preserved. The paper discusses how this statesman and political theorist was a very controversial figure. The paper examines his work "The Prince" and its contribution to the field of political science. The paper discusses his other famous work "Discourse on the first ten books of Titus Livius".
From the Paper:
"In 1513 he wrote his most famous work, The Prince, intended as a guideline for the ideal ruler. Although the field of political science was created a long time after Machiavelli wrote his works, his contribution to the field is often considered of the out most importance. Besides The Prince, Machiavelli's other works helped define the field of political science - Discourse on the first ten books of Titus Livius (1571), On the Art of War (Dell'arte della Guerra, 1518), History of Florence (1525). The essential novelty of Machiavelli's contribution is in the field of social science, as politics becomes for Machiavelli a science with a specific object, which is the art of governing, conserve and development of states, that are seen by him as living organisms, with a life of their own."
