From the Paper:

"Achrol and Kotler (1999), on the other hand, say that in regard to the changes allegedly stemming from the Web, it is essential to look at the change in structure of business organizations themselves. Several decades ago, as the normal organizational structure was a hierarchical one, the marketing and distribution of goods were effected in an independent way, rather than in interactive way during the exchange between buyer and seller. Nowadays, the wide spread of E-commerce has created a new function of marketing, a consultative one. Customers' contribution to business' exchanges are now much more organized and at the other pole of being passive."
