From the Paper:
"The objective of the skin swabs on MSA plates lab experiment is to show that Staphylococcus epidermis, a resident microbiota, will be present and that Staphylococcus aureus, a transient microbiota, may be present. According to Bauman (2009), S. epidermis 'thrives on almost every square millimeter of human skin" yet it "seldom causes disease.' (555) Bauman also states that S. aureus is 'not a permanent resident but does grow on the skin or mucous membranes of most people at some times in their lives, particularly in the nostrils.' (555)"
