Islam
A discussion of the basic tenets in the Islamic religion.
3,581 words (approx. 14.3 pages) | 3 sources | MLA | 2006 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper begins by providing a history of the prophet Mohammed and then discusses how he became the leader of the religion known today as Islam. The writer looks at the basic laws and practices of Islam - prayer, behavior, food restrictions and festivals.

From the Paper:

"Ramadan came about from a direct passage of the Qu'ran. "It was the month of Ramadan in which the Qur'an was bestowed from on high as a guidance unto humankind and a clear proof of that guidance, and as the standard to discern truth from falsehood." (The Qu'ran 2:185) Some Islams believe that during Ramadan, good deeds are rewarded on a scale of a thousand to one. Based on authentic narrations from the Messenger of Allah, each letter of the Qur'an receives ten rewards; reading one letter is counted as ten good deeds, and yields ten fruits in Paradise. But during Ramadan, each letter receives not just ten, but a thousand rewards. Especially, each letter in some verses like "Ayat al-Qursi, (2:255)" receives several thousands. Such rewards are further multiplied on the Fridays of Ramadan and during the "Night of Power" in which each letter is counted as thirty thousand good deeds."
