"Personal Background & Circumstances of Applicant
The Applicant is an Iranian national who is 19 years of age (evidenced by both statutory declaration and verification by Iranian authorities) and is a practising homosexual (a letter from a clinical psychologist is attached to this submission indicating the belief that the Applicant is in fact a homosexual). He had relationship with another man in Iran immediately prior to leaving that country. The Applicant has been domiciled approximately 150 kilometres outside of Tehran in a small rural Iranian village his entire life. He had lived his family who are practicing Shia Muslim and who have shunned him on the basis of his sexual orientation. He has a brother who is sought by local authorities for engaging in dissent against the government. The brother has been gaoled on a previous occasion. The Applicant holds a number of fears including fear of persecution and/or death on the account of both his sexual orientation and in relation to his political opinions by being a conscientious objector to performing national military service. He also fears of torture on the account of his association with his brother. For these reasons, the Applicant left Iran for Australia."
