"The term "hypersexuality" is actually an umbrella term that has been used to describe a wide range of acute changes in sexual behavior that are usually induced by an organic agent, for instance, as the result of an illness, brain injury or a medication effect (Huws et al., 1991). Hypersexuality has also been used as a clinical descriptor for sexual impulsivity disorders (SIDs), the paraphilias (PAs) and paraphilia-related disorders (PRDs) (Kafka, 1997). While the condition of hypersexuality has been the focus of increased attention among the mental healthcare community in recent years, much remains unknown about these conditions and what treatments are most effective and why."
