Human Resource Management

Paper Summary:

In this paper, the human resource function and the human resource strategic planning function are considered, with special reference to the United Kingdom and France. These countries have recently made changes to their industrial relations legislation and institutions, both guided by economic forces and their respective governments. The appropriate legislation and the industrial relations climate in the two countries are examined, and the strategies being adopted by business organizations to take advantage of the legislative and business environment are considered. Aspects of corporate organization in human resource and the use of technology are also briefly examined.

"Both the United Kingdom and France have experienced state sponsored attempts to enact better industrial relations institutions and legislations then the ones that they inherited. The period when these attempts were noticeable were from the 1980s onward when severe strikes and industrial relations conflicts forced the states to take a look at and attempt to reform and produce a better industrial relations system (Hall 2003; Employment Act 2000)."
