Female Entrepreneurialism in the United Kingdom
A comprehensive examination of what makes or breaks a female entrepreneur in the U.K. today.
5,217 words (approx. 20.9 pages) | 19 sources | APA | 2004 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper identifies the fundamental issues involved in starting a small business, including what factors contribute to a small business's success and what qualities typify the successful entrepreneur that would serve as a useful framework in which a female entrepreneur could develop an equine service enterprise in the United Kingdom. An examination and analysis of the foregoing issues is followed by a summary of the research in the conclusion.

From the Paper:

"Further complicating an analysis of these differences is the fact that the majority of the research that has been conducted was carried out in the United States using samples of predominantly male entrepreneurs (Kovereid et al., 1993; Birley, 1989). Based on this scant evidence, though, the literature suggests that these environmental factors are perceived differently by male and female venture initiators. For example, female venture initiators were identifying as having more trouble getting access to capital, perhaps as a result of a lack of confidence shown by banks, suppliers, and clients. According to Kolvereid et al., female entrepreneurs find it more difficult to get business training, and have more trouble attracting qualified labor."
