"This research paper is an exploration of the concept of the "Extranet," a term of art and science that is popularly used as having a very definite intrinsic meaning, but upon examination, is at best a confusing and contradictory term. This paper will attempt to define the term "Extranet", an activity that will be handled in the second part of this paper. The reason for holding the definition off is simple. An "extranet" cannot exist without the "internet" and it is essential to an understanding of extranets to first be perfectly clear on what the "Internet" is, and is not.
