↶ Look Inside

Paper Summary:

This paper discusses the issue of business ethics, an issue that seems to be relatively simple but is actually rather complicated. The paper shows how business ethics has evolved to become an extremely complicated issue in today's society. The paper uses Wal-Mart as an example of a company in clear violation of even basic 21st century western ethics.

From the Paper:

"Conversely, there are other forces at play, which were lacking during the Victorian area. Human beings today are much more critical in their acquisition of knowledge (McNamara, 1999). Whereas the poor and underprivileged during the Victorian and Industrial ages did not believe that anything could be done about the injustice towards them, this is not the case today. Consumers are much more aware of how exactly businesses are run and rarely keep quiet when they feel that injustice is being done. The very same example of the above-mentioned financial CEO can be used to demonstrate this point. He was in trouble for his deceitful practices, whereas actions on the same level during the Industrial Age would not have been frowned upon so harshly had it even been known. "
