The paper discusses how the phenomenon of drug abuse and addiction in the family is a complex issue from both a psychological and a social point of view. The paper examines how the effects of addiction can be traumatic and devastating to the other family members, who might often blame themselves for the addict's behavior. There has been an increase in the number of young people addicted to serious chemical substances that can have life - threatening consequences.
