Does God Exist?
A philosophical debate presenting two sides of the argument of whether God exists.
3,124 words (approx. 12.5 pages) | 7 sources | MLA | 2002 United States

Paper Summary:

This research paper provides two sides of the same topic, the pros and cons in the debate over the existence of God. Thus, this research paper, which takes no position, yet highlights the reasoning and throws light upon the proofs given by the two sides, is divided into two parts, with further subdivisions. Part One discusses the reasons and beliefs pertaining to the non-existence of God. Part Two discusses the evidence that suggests that God does exist, with all its glamor, power, and charisma.

From the Paper:

"The theism vs. atheism debate, unlike what most people believe in or know, us not about the non-existence or the existence of God respectively. An atheistic argument which is based on the belief that there is a fair amount of possibility that some specific gods do not exist can be considered logical and probable. This is because disproving the existence of some gods is far more acceptable than totally denying the existence of all possible gods or a god. As Jeffrey Jay Lowder states in his extensively researched article, "I suspect that many people are under the false impression that the atheist is under some fictitious obligation to prove the non-existence of all possible gods in a single argument, in turn probably because many people conflate atheism with materialism. I would be the first person to grant that there is probably not a single argument which proves the non-existence of all logically possible gods. But the existence of such an argument is not what the theism vs. atheism debate is all about. Rather, the issue is which, if any, logically possible gods exist. While some possible gods (e.g., the Greek Pantheon) do appear to be unfalsifiable, there does not appear to be any a priori reason why other possible gods cannot be disproved" (Zhao). Such doubtful thoughts pave leeway for the debate regarding the existence of god as well as provide room to people who want to reason the non-existence of gods or god."
