Development Stages
An analysis of the development stages of Piaget and whether they are relevant today, focusing on the young adults and their image of themselves in today's society.
3,254 words (approx. 13 pages) | 12 sources | MLA | 2005 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper focuses on young adults and explains that they have stronger, more flexible, and enduring bodies that can perceive more sharply and process more information for quicker response even in a complicated environment than senior adults. It looks at how these young ones are also more easily won by external rewards and more conscious about their looks and behavior in public than older people, but they fare equally in performing tasks requiring moral reasoning. It concludes that their sense of the future and the extent of that future also depends on how satisfied they are with their past and present lives, not on how old they are or how long they have lived.

From the Paper:

"Piaget theorized a hierarchy of development stages with inherent tasks pertinent only to those stages. He assumed that a person would perform these tasks correctly in each stage and that there would be physical, perceptual, cognitive and affective changes from stage to stage. Young people from the 16-19 age range would tend to be alert, vigorous, careless, more perceptive and retentive but also more self-conscious and emotionally insecure than those in the 60 or more age bracket who would have gained the necessary knowledge, wisdom and maturity through experience and learning."
