The movement to California has been especially high at certain points in American history, notably during the Gold Rush beginning in 1849 and in the 1930s as thousands of people fled the Dust Bowl conditions in places like Oklahoma and Kansas and moved to California in search of better conditions. Since the 1920s, there has been an ongoing movement of hopefuls from around the world to the Los Angeles region to pursue a dream in Hollywood or to find work in the defense plants."
