Brief Psychology History of Maslow

In this article, the writer looks at the life of Abraham H. Maslow and discusses his history as it relates to psychology. The writer describes that Maslow was one of the first to address the hierarchy of needs that arises as basic needs or problems are being solved. The writer examines the life of Maslow as an intellectual pioneer of his time. The writer looks at how he consistently came up with new ideas and wrote about them. In this paper, the writer discusses how Maslow's life was devoted to the study of people that were psychologically healthy and self-actualizing people; in other words those who have accomplished the highest level of maturation, health and self-fulfillment. In this way, the writer describes that Maslow eventually came up with his famous hierarchy of needs.

"A homeless person is often hungry and looking for food. This innately is done to satisfy the initial hunger need before any other need. Following the hunger need, the homeless person searches for a place to sleep and be safe. This can be related to Maslow's second level of needs, which is safety. Once those needs are met, the homeless person will move on to seek love and social affiliation, maybe he/she will seek friends or loved ones, so as to satisfy this need. The self-esteem need and self-actualization come subsequently. It may be difficult for the homeless person to accomplish the latter, but it can be done."
