This paper reviews how in the contemporary context in the middle of the first decade of the 21st century, the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997-1998 seems a distant memory that has been obscured by the meteoric economic boom of China and the global changes that have occurred post-September 11, 2001. However this perspective risks ignoring the significance of this crisis given that the underlying structures of the global economy during this crisis, in particular the phenomenon of globalization and its primary institutions the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Trade Organization (WTO) continue to shape our economy today.From the Paper:
