From the Paper:
" The dual disorder integrated treatment approach is one that focuses on treating both the mental illness or disorder of the individual while at the same time treating substance abuse and addiction disorders. This is a treatment program that both the psychiatric clinician and the substance abuse treatment clinician are able to feel at ease with. This program is one in which the individual is allowed to ease into the dual treatment and even allows treatment to begin for those with mental illness without high-pressure being exerted on their admitting to substance abuse problems and is a treatment program that focuses on engaging the individual in their treatment of both disorders. Prior to the integrate treatment program, which is evidence based being implemented, Medicaid did not pay for rehab treatment however, in the focus upon treatment for recovery initiatives recently, these programs have been approved for Medicaid payment and are slowly being implemented in the United States."
