Although there has been much research performed on ADHD within the last ten years; there have been relatively few studies specifically investigating language abilities of children with ADHD. This paper defines attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder and attempts to examine the unknown relationships possibly existing between ADHD and language. It looks at the contrasting opinions found in experiments and articles dealing with ADHD's affects on spoken language and medical journals.
From the Paper:
"Recent research on the affects of ADHD on spoken lexical has primarily been focused around the general consensus that this disorder does not help speech skills or development; but mostly hinders speech development. Presently, the relationship between attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder and communication skills is complex and often misunderstood. Misunderstandings arise in part because of definitions and diagnostic categorizations that change over the years and because of overlapping symptoms between diagnostic categories."
