The writer concludes that education should be aimed at individuals within the medical practice that helps them to understand the dangers and causes of discrimination so that it can be reduced to the greatest extent possible.

"Discrimination in the medical field can lead to misdiagnosis of patients. When a doctor or medical professional makes an inaccurate diagnosis of a patient, they are liable to be charged with malpractice, which is not only good for the doctor, but can also damage the health institution where that doctor or medical professional works. More importantly, malpractice is harmful to the patient. There are a number of ways in which discrimination can lead to misdiagnoses. If a doctor makes specific assumptions about a person based on their social status, their race, ethnicity, ability or sexual orientation, they may be more likely to assign stereotypical diagnoses to that person. For example, if an individual presents with symptoms malnourishment or uncleanliness, a doctor may infer that the person comes from a low socio-economic status and may therefore attribute the patient's condition to a lack of knowledge about personal care and hygiene. However, there could be other underlying causes or diseases that are contributing to the person's appearance, which could range from a specific disease to a learning disability."
