"The state of wildlife shelters in Pennsylvania is good, overall, but could be improved. The problem seems to be one of funding and a question of how much the legislature is willing to spend to see to the needs of wild animals. While mostly everyone pays lip service to the need for care, animals take a back seat to the needs of humans when money gets tight, as it appears to be at this point.
"State run medical programs for humans are being slashed to the bone (AAMC.org) in this incarnation of compassionate conservatism and much less money is left to fund animal treatment and housing. Still, the shelters are doing a good job considering that with which they have to work."
