Chosen as a "Paper of the Week":
April 3, 1948 is the date that U.S. President Harry S. Truman signed the Marshall Plan into effect. The Marshall Plan was designed and implemented with the goal of not only bringing economic recovery to Europe so as to prevent the recurrence of yet another world war, but also to instill a particular set of democratic and economic values into the nation of Germany and the rest of Europe that had not fallen under Soviet power. By all intents and purposes, the Marshall Plan was a huge success. This week’s Paper of the Week on AcaDemon, paper #112350, “The Marshall Plan and the Post 9/11 Global War on Terror”, examines this success as well as the continued influence the Plan had on American foreign policy in years to come. In an analysis of the US most recent foreign policy regarding enemies or factions with whom the US is at war, paper #112350 takes a look at how, to what extent, and in what way, the US response to the horrific 9/11 attacks was influenced by the Marshall Plan. This 21-page document with over two pages of sources provides an in-depth look at the origins, goals and implementation of the Marshall Plan and then examines the lessons that should be gleaned from the Marshall Plan in a post 9/11 world. Paper #112350, “The Marshall Plan and the Post 9/11 Global War on Terror is an original, insightful, and skillfully written paper.
Paper Summary:
This paper discusses the Marshall Plan of the United States of America and describes how it came into formation after World War II. The author first explains the implementation process and methods of the Marshall Plan in its early years and the goals that the United States had hoped to achieve. The paper then talks about how the Plan affected politics in countries such as France and Italy post WWII. Next, the author talks about the pros and cons of the Plan, focusing in particular how it and the capitalism that comes with it were not as desirable in some nations, especially the Middle Eastern ones. Blatant favoritism in aid arrangements to Israel, the author reasons, is one the many reasons why Muslim nations feel discriminated against by American policies and the result was rebellion in the form of terrorism.

Conclusion
From the Paper:
"The lesson is that Islamic legal traditions and governmental institutions are inherently inferior to Western ones, as is shown additionally by the American insistence on re-training Iraqi police and other security personnel. The entire message is one of gross Muslim inferiority, a message that only breeds further hatred and stimulates rage. If the United States truly hopes to achieve a peaceful understanding and co-existence with the Muslim world it must come to terms with the realities of the Muslim world as it is seen and lived by Muslims themselves while taking care to understand what actions can truly prevent the rise and spread of terrorism."
