↶ Look Inside

Paper Summary:

The paper is based on the1999 New Jersey "Frozen Embryo Case". It explores the pro-choice arguments of the mother's right to control her own body. It then highlights the difference between this issue in a normal pregnancy and in the "Frozen Embryo Case" " where the baby was NOT in the mother's body, and the father desired to care for the child. It argues that regular abortion law cannot apply in this case, and recommends an adaptation of ground rules in abortion legislation.

From the Paper:

"The "Frozen Embryo Case" in New Jersey that took place in the beginning of 1999 suggests that there are certain rules already developed with regard to abortion. According to the abortion law today, a woman has the right to decide whether she wants to go ahead with a pregnancy or not. This is because of the fact that the embryo is in "her body", and anything that is done to the embryo will directly affect the woman. This is a result of the success that pro-choice has had in gaining these rights for the benefit of women. This is fine because the woman knows best what is right for her body and the baby as well."
