↶ Look Inside

Paper Summary:

This paper argues in favor of capital punishment as an effective form of punishment in America. It uses the latest "sniper case" in the Washington D.C area as an example of why the death sentence should continue. The paper examines why the death sentence plays such an important part in this particular trial, as the snipers committed murders in several states, some of which carry the death sentence for murder and some which do not.

From the Paper:

"Already proponents and opponents of the death penalty are lining up on both sides of the fence about these trials. In another interesting note to this case, the two suspects are being tried under a new anti-terrorism law that was enacted after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, along with another state law that says a murderer can receive the death penalty if they shoot more than one person within three years. The anti-terrorism act says they can both receive the death penalty if convicted. These two men, who allegedly spread horror throughout the metropolitan Washington D.C. area, took human lives wantonly and without regard. They killed mothers, children, fathers, and grandparents. They distorted entire families' lives with the pull of trigger, all for the thrill of shooting someone. They should be convicted and sentenced to die, and they should have to die in a way that makes them suffer even one-tenth as much as the families of the victims have suffered. These are not men, they are animals, and should be treated as such."
