The Dangers of Alternative Energy
This paper addresses the drawbacks and limitations of current "green technology".
2,056 words (approx. 8.2 pages) | 10 sources | MLA | 2008 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper highlights the main problems posed by alternative energy sources, touted to be "environmentally friendly". The paper discusses these energy sources' high costs and inefficiency, their use of corn and soybean crops that can lead to hunger and starvation for many populations, and the destruction of birds and other forms of wildlife by wind turbines. The paper asserts that, ultimately, the power to solve these problems lies within the hands of the masses who can conserve energy through small actions such as making greater use of public transportation, and conserving electricity in general. The paper contends that if the government would use its power to promote energy conservation, rather than waste valuable crops, the goals of reducing global hunger, becoming more environmentally friendly, and improving industrial efficiency would be attained.

From the Paper:

"With the onset of the Industrial Revolution came great disregard for the planets well being. Soon after, many nations began to recognize their citizens suffering a wide array of health problems, many of which were brought on, or agitated by crude methods of extracting energy from fossil fuels. Provoked by the recent high cost of such sources of energy, a renewed effort has been introduced to create awareness regarding the danger posed by mass energy consumption. Likewise, the use of alternative energy sources, touted to be "environmentally friendly", has been emphasized. While the concept of using seemingly clean and limitless supplies of energy as an alternative to fossil fuels may be worthwhile, the implementation of such technology at this point in time would be unwise, and other actions should be taken to guard the Earth's integrity."
