"According to recorded data approximately 19,475 students were enrolled in a CSS K-5 in 2005. Of that population approximately 5,084 were Hispanic students. Approximately 2,965 of those students spoke another primary language other than English (FLDOE, 2005). Hispanic teachers employed in CSS during this time period were approximately 41 male teachers and approximately 177 female teachers, with a total staff membership of 5,353 (FLDOE, 2005). Hispanics have quickly become the largest minority group enrolled in public schools throughout the United States. According to the U.S. Department of Education's National Center on Education Statistics (2003), today, one in every six children who attend public school in the United States is of Latino origin."
