This paper examines how second-hand smoke affects the health of other people and then discusses a new law in Germany that bans smoking in restaurants, schools, and other public buildings. Probably the most widely argued community health issue of the last three decades or so has been smoking, extending beyond the question of what happens to the body when someone smokes or how much smoking damages the health of the smoker and instead showing how the whole community may suffer for what a smoker does. Landler (2006) refers to an ongoing campaign in Europe against smoking in public places, a campaign mirrored in several American cities."
