1,295 words (approx. 5.2 pages) | 4 sources | MLA | 2008 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper explains that the Constitution of the United States declares that each individual has certain rights and, at the same time, limits the government's power. The author examines the issues of terrorism, crime fighting, drug trafficking, and the death penalty, all of which challenge these rights in the name of protecting the public. The paper concludes that this country must always strive to maintain the balance between individual rights with public order, which keeps the American dream alive for a safe and happy place to live.

From the Paper:

"The use of the death penalty in our country has divided a lot of people and how they think it should be used or not used. The topic of the death penalty is so heated that because of limitations of carrying it our, we now have criminals waiting on death row 10-20 years. There are quite a few people that think the death penalty does not deter anyone from criminal acts, but at the same time a lesser sentence such as imprisonment is said to deter them. My question is, if imprisonment is a deterrent then why is a harsher sentence such as the death penalty not considered a deterrent?"
