Paper Summary:

This paper stresses that religion and ethics have co-existed from the time that people learned the existence of God and His sacred laws. The author points out that religion is considered as the first primeval stage of finding out about what is right and wrong in a moral aspect. Given the complexity of modern life, the paper urges that the essence of ethics and religion should be preserved.

From the Paper:

"As for the psychological relationship of religion and ethics, Immanuel Kant stated that the moral acts depend on motives. We can differentiate a non-moral deed if the act is done for self-interest only. However, according to Kant's definition, when an act is done because of God's instructions, it is considered as non-moral. There have been a lot of reactions and comments on this statement especially from the religious groups around the world because it had been a big challenge for them that an individual can be both moral and irreligious."
