This paper discusses the various internal and external causes of racism such as our personalities, insecurities, media and cultural influences. The paper also discusses the various sociological approaches to explaining racism and looks at how these approaches can help us understand its causes better. The paper then argues how we must use this understanding to finally end racism and discusses what approach we should take towards other peoples and cultures in order to put an end to racism.
From the Paper:
"Who you grew up with, what you were taught, your employment, and past history, all influence you in some kind of way to make you either more racist or make you think of racism at a whole new level. Many people are racist today because of the people they grew up with. We all are created equally but racism is still around because the causes of racism still exist. Sometimes racism can develop among people of different race because of the lack of knowledge about the other race and its beliefs. If we know little about the other race, we may misinterpret their behavior in some way or another."
