Paper Summary:

This paper discusses the many advances that have been brought about by medical research and the that work still remains in order to find cures for illnesses resulting from the degeneration of cells. The paper also describes the possibilities regarding stem cell research and the controversy that surrounds this topic. In addition, the paper discusses all of the potential advantages to be gained from stem cell research and then concludes that it must continue.

From the Paper:

"Throughout time, people have sought ways to extend the human lifespan. However, despite the vast amounts of time and increases in biological understanding, humans have yet to find their fountain of youth. Especially in the last century, many advances have been brought about by medical research such as: cures for many types of illnesses, antibiotics and even pain medication; however, there still remain those illnesses resulting from degeneration of cells that are not yet curable. It is on this degenerative cell level that the attempts of science have gone unrewarded, until now. The National Institutes of Health (NIH), the nation's medical research agency, explains that researchers now feel the cause of some of the world's deadliest diseases, such as cancer and diabetes, is from abnormal cell division in the human body. Studying stem cells will provide the basis for a new type of treatment that has the ability to solve human-degeneration illnesses, by replacing or repairing defective or damaged cells resulting from the different diseases (Stem cells). Although opponents of stem cell research believe that the use of stem cells is morally wrong, it is important that the research proceed. Stem cells are defined by Kansas University Medical Center (KUMC):"
