Jihad in the Quran
A definition and explanation of the meaning of jihad in Muslim teachings.
1,841 words (approx. 7.4 pages) | 6 sources | APA | 2008 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper defines and explains the meaning of jihad in Islam and the Quran. The paper looks at verses from the Bible that encourage peace and harmony, as opposed to war and struggle. It then uses this to explain that jihad is not any war fought by any Muslim for any reason, but is rather an individual's struggle in this world for his existence.

From the Paper:

"The verses from Bible show that it does support war and killing. Islam does not support the act of terrorism under any conditions. Terrorism goes against every belief in Islam. If a Muslim engages in terrorism, he is not following Islam and is just using the name of Islam for political or financial gain. And to understand Islam to its entirety one has to read the whole Quran so that he can make out the entire events in which the revelations came. Islam asks people to flourish the acts of peace harmony and mercy. Sura 5 Verse 32 shows this as it says "That was why We laid it down for the Israelites that whoever killed a human being, except as a punishment for murder or other villainy in the land, shall be looked upon as though he had killed all mankind; and that whoever saved a human life shall be regarded as though he had saved all man kind.""
