Illegal Immigration
Argues that illegal immigration is a financial burden for the U.S.
1,630 words (approx. 6.5 pages) | 12 sources | MLA | 2007 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper argues that undocumented immigrants cause serious financial problems for the United States of America. The paper points out the many ways that undocumented immigrants are a financial burden e.g. the tax revenue that is lost by allowing the undocumented illegal immigrants to utilize public services but not pay income tax. The paper also relates the history of California Proposition 187, which was designed to address some of the problems posed by undocumented immigrants and maintains that, even though the proposition was a step in the right direction, it was defeated by litigation campaigns and an overzealous governor.

From the Paper:

"Because Proposition 187 was defeated, the California citizens continue to suffer at the hand of the undocumented immigrant. The financial effects of illegal immigration touch everyday American workers. Studies show that once undocumented workers enter a region and begin working, native workers exit the region taking their disposable incomes with them. The financial impact to the region is substantial. Native workers generally relocate due to stronger competition for jobs that a lower wage undocumented worker can perform."
