Paper Summary:
This paper expresses the importance of maintaining freedoms of the press, religion, and speech, which are not guaranteed in all countries. The author points out that the American society is split radically when it comes to religious freedoms; the First Amendment is very vague in this area, and two clauses often times contradict each other. The paper concludes that people's human rights are usually taken advantage of when they are not viewed as rights, but as privileges.
From the Paper:
"The government may or may not reveal to the press many things because they don't want the public to know about a lot of business that goes on in the government. On the flip side, the press reserves the right to withhold information. They say it is to protect the resources confidentiality and that it will be more difficult to get information from their sources in the future. I personally believe that even though that might be partly true, they may withhold certain information to form the kinds of opinions in the public's minds that they want. Here is a quoted example of freedom of speech."
