Affirmative Action
A paper in support of the policy of affirmative action.
1,076 words (approx. 4.3 pages) | 10 sources | MLA | 2009 United States

Paper Summary:

The paper presents the belief that society stands to benefit from affirmative action. The paper looks at works that decry how affirmative action in society is often misrepresented as reverse discrimination and how affirmative action is associated with negative stereotyping. The paper points out, however, that while affirmative action is a noble undertaking, some onus also lies on the black leadership in the United States to inspire people to pursue education and career goals that are more in keeping with the economies of modern times.

From the Paper:

"Affirmative action is premised on aiding a section of society to ensure an artifice--representation or to redress loss. The Emancipation Proclamation was the original affirmative action--freedom of African Americans from slavery--following the Civil War. The next major move for affirmative action was the Civil Rights movement of the fifties and sixties, where African American leaders with support from white Americans, won equal rights and representations for African Americans--or so they thought."
