"For many years, students have been attending school for nine months of the year with an extended break of approximately three months over the summer in order to regroup and become prepared to start the education process all over again. This type of schedule is known as a traditional calendar school year and according to Schlechty was instituted many years ago at a time when most Americans lived in rural areas on farms.
