A Smarter President?

A Smarter President?
This paper maintains that intelligence testing should be a requirement for the Presidency of the United States.
2,019 words (approx. 8.1 pages) | 10 sources | MLA | 2007 United States

Paper Summary:

The paper contends that there are many people that do not feel as though current President George Bush, is intelligent enough to run the country. The paper looks at the advantages and disadvantages of a higher Presidential intelligence. The paper concludes that whether a President should have high intelligence is still open to debate, but a President with a higher degree of intelligence would likely be able to solve more of the problems of today such as immigration, Iraq, health care, taxes and other issues.

From the Paper:

"Having a high IQ does not always mean that one has "performed well in school or done something spectacular" with one's life, although this can be the case (Utley, 327). Often, however, "individuals that have very high IQs do not excel in school because the work is far too easy for them and they become bored quite quickly" (Blozis, 308). However, there are many benefits to having a more intelligent individual in the office of President. First, the "IQ is a measure of logical reasoning" (Beebe-Frankenberger, 226), and this is something that a President desperately needs. Without "being able to logically reason out what should be done on a particular issue, disaster can result" (Jefferson, 220)."
