Paper Summary:

This paper describes the author's family situation in which his divorced father remarries a woman from Brazil and brings her and her son to live in a small U.S. community with the author. The people in this town, the author relates, were so prejudice and hostile against immigrants that his father and his second family had to return to Brazil. The inappropriate actions of this small town, the author writes, taught him to be open-minded to everything and to love all people.

From the Paper:

"Not only was I feeling the uneasiness of my new family throughout my town, but I was also beginning to see the stress and hostility in my own family. My dad's mother soon stopped speaking with him due to her extreme frustration with his choice to marry Patricia. The rest of his family soon followed in a less harsh manner. They sporadically spoke to him, but his once close family was now becoming very hostile. My mother began to speak of my dad as if he were a raving lunatic for marrying so soon to someone he hardly knew."
