Paper Summary:

This paper presents a personal reflection on sexual identity. The paper looks at the value system which the writer uses to define his sexual decision-making, how the physical, social, scientific and historical views of sexuality affected the writer's views of whom he is supposed to be, where he is with regard to the masculine-feminine continuum and how he can communicate effectively as a sexual human being.

From the Paper:

"The styles of love which have pervaded my romantic experiences have been Romantic, or Eros love (Rathus, et al. 2005). When I began to date, I searched out romantic relationships. Physical beauty was paramount, and sexual desire was a must. I became emotionally attached easily and went through a number of different relationships. The second most prevailing style of love in my life has been pragmatic love (psychology.suite101.com, 2009). I began to search for a woman who would be a good wife and mother. I was practical and rational in my pursuit; I looked for one who was intelligent, and had similar interests to my own. I cared little about the emotional aspects of love at this stage in my life. The third and final style of love to pervade my romantic experience was storge love (psychology.suite101.com, 2009). After my divorce I searched out an interest from my adolescent years. We had a strong friendship which had never developed into a romantic relationship; therefore, sex was not the priority. Our relationship was based on compassion, caring and intimate discussions and communication was the strong point in our relationship."
