Paper Summary:

This paper discusses the movie, "The Fly," directed by David Cronenberg, the renown Canadian director. The paper specifically focuses on the concept of the mutation of the human body which is a focus throughout the film. The paper shows how "The Fly" illustrates Cronenberg's fascination with the fragility of the human body.

From the Paper:

"The Brundlefly's characteristics represent the subtle mutations that are in all of us whether it is from the alteration in the processes of our mind, and/or the mutations of the body in which we have no control over. These natural mutations are means that are beyond our control as Cronenberg has emphatically pointed out to us by portraying his protagonist's futile attempts to overtake the mutations of his body. Most importantly, the first stages of Brundle's mutation into the Brundlefly is more subtle, and a process that most of us can relate to. The subtle mutations of our own life are most likely not even apparent to us, and this is most prominent during our middle age years when we have very little thoughts of our own mortality, or during adolescence when we can easily observe the changes in our outward appearance."
