This paper discusses the 1972 film, "The Godfather," directed by Francis Ford Coppola and based on the novel of the same name by Mario Puzo. The paper briefly discusses Coppola's history in filmmaking and then looks at his directorship of "The Godfather." Specifically, the paper examines Coppola's difficulties in making the film and the obstacles that he encountered. In addition, the paper looks at the huge success that the film turned out to be.

"Coppola would later describe the process of making The Godfather as an extremely arduous and horrible experience. From beginning to end, the director had to fight to make the film his way. Several of his actors were hard to control. Even though the studio was against him, several members of his crew were reluctant to do things his way and were even working to sabotage his effort. Despite this, the film would make his career as well as many others and it would be considered a work of genius. Furthermore, this film launched the careers of several actors who would go on to be among Hollywood's finest actors in the next three decades. It would also create a whole genre of film that includes other films such as Goodfellas and Casino. And finally, it would kick off a very successful career for Coppola himself. For these reasons, The Godfather should be considered a film that changed movie history."
