"Sicko"

Paper Summary:

This paper discusses how Michael Moore's "Sicko" is a documentary movie that speaks out about the lack of health insurance for over fifty million Americans and how those who have health insurance are the privileged few who can afford it. The paper relates that "Sicko" compares the "paid" health care system of the United States to the socialized medical care in France, Canada, the United Kingdom and even Cuba. In addition, the writer's personal response to the movie is provided in terms of his position as an employer.

"What Michael Moore is driving at is despite the United States remaining as the sole superpower in the world; it is still inutile when it comes to providing basic health insurance coverage for its citizens. Sure there exist "U.S. government-funded health-care systems such as Medicare, Medicaid, the State Children's Health Insurance Program and the Veterans Affairs health-care systems. About 50 percent of all health-care dollars spent in the United States flows through these government systems. (Gajilan, 2007)" The problem is how come a lot of the citizens do not have access compared to the countries presented in Sicko."
